Went there in march this year and totally missed the first tunnel behind the escavator and instead followed a path next to it for an hour leading to…nothing. In fact it was almost invisible at the end and turned around disappointed. So close!
The good news is I’m going for it in may again!

Thanks for the article. We were going to Barranco de Badajoz for canyoning and I just knew it starts at the end of one off the tunnels. The canyon description was really bad, so I used yours to navigate. πŸ™‚ Thanks a lot. πŸ™‚ By all means, please really remove the suggestion to throw stones down, it could kill any of the canyoneers down in the gorge.

Hey Bob, yes, it’s certainly doable with a scooter. I haven’t done it myself but I know people who went there with a 125cc scooter and didn’t have any issues.
Have fun on your trip!

I’ll be in Tenerife for a few days in November and would love to do this hike. I’m planning on renting a scooter/moped, and wondered if you thought it possible to drive to the southern parking lot on one? Or if you noticed any locals doing that? I have experience riding scooters and motorcycles, just wondered what you thought!

Thanks in advance!

The abyss will likely be Barranco de Badajoz, where people are walking and you have no idea where that stone may land. Anyway, when hiking in the mountains anywhere, greatest care myst be employed to make sure that stones are not falling anywhere.
Thanks for the text and photos!

Hi Janis! First of all my apologies – you are totally right that the map was wrong. From what I can tell, this happened because OpenStreetMap has updated its maps since I initially published the article and removed the actual hike from it. Because of it, it now calculates the directions between start and end point (which are still correct) completely differently and wrongly indeed.

I suspect this was done because Ventanas de Guimar is not an official hike, so someone must’ve asked OpenStreetMap to do it. Unfortunately, that’s not something I have control over (or notice easily), so I can only thank you for pointing this out.

I have now removed the map from the article. You should still be able to find the hike if you go to the parking lot location. I have double-checked, and it’s correct. Again, my apologies.

I found your blog and I should say that photos and overall description was quite good except technical info such as map. Did you even checked what is visible in that map or it is some kind of joke? We spend almost all day driving and walking around and we followed your map and we saw only buildings and dirty roads. On evening we understood that your map is totally wrong. All day wasted because of your wrong map. You should understand that you have responsibility about tourists who follow your map. It is not just pictoral descriptions but technical info: where, how, how long and etc. Map is the most important thing when you go somewhere. Please make corrections or delete that wrong map.
